THE ORIGINS OF PASHMINA
It is not today that the pashmina benefits from the favor of the whole world. There was a time when this art was supported by royalty. Kings, queens, royal families and nobles all over the world knew the pashmina. In fact, they had a large number of pashmina shawls and scarves.
It was in the 16th century, when the birthplace of pashmina - Kashmir - was under Mughal rule, that pashmina was discovered. And the Mughal kings of the time were captivated by its mere appearance. Later, the aesthetic of this art spread further and Napoleon Bonaparte brought back and presented his wife, Josephine, with a pashmina shawl.
Very quickly won over by this extraordinary material, Joséphine built up a collection of more than a hundred of the most luxurious Pashminas and launched the fashion for Pashminas in the royal courts of Europe.
In Iran, leaders also wore and offered pashminas in their political practices. In India, Maharaja Ranjit decorated his court with hand-embroidered pashmina shawls and fabrics
The current political situation in Indian Kashmir is not very favorable to the export of Pashmina. However, the Pashmina produced in Kashmir is still considered the king of all fabrics, which makes it timeless and heritage..
PASHMINA & CACHEMERE
It is important to distinguish between cashmere wool and Pashmina.
Cashmere wool is produced from goats and is widely produced in China and Mongolia.
On the other hand, Pashmina is a cashmere wool from a specific breed of goats from the Ladakh region, which produces a finer hair and therefore a more precious and warmer wool.
Although Pashmina is a variety of cashmere wool, its production accounts for only 1% of total cashmere production.
The fineness of Pashmina hair requires a unique weaving skill that has been developed in the region around Srinagar for over four centuries. This is why Pashmina is often called "the gold of Kashmir".
The touch and warmth of Pashmina are incomparable with those of Cashmere wool. With Ecopash, you will find a selection of top quality Pashminas, woven by local artisans using traditional techniques.
We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality products to our customers, ensuring that each Pashmina is a true handcrafted gem.
